The Client

Micron Workholding manufactures workholding solutions including Microloc – an innovative system which was conceived to utilise machine time more effectively by operating concurrently on multiple parts.

The Challenge

Micron’s products are all made from steel, which tends to rust.  All operations are carried out on site so the steel is machined in the workshop.  Pinprick rust can set in a matter of hours after steel is cut so it is important that a corrosion preventative is applied before putting machined items into storage.

Historically the company used WD40 to spray completed items but there were issues – they noticed that parts were becoming stained over time and needed to look for an alternative product to resolve this.

The Solution

Steelgard, as we so often hear, came to the rescue.  Clean, quick and as easy to apply as WD40 but with added benefits of a high concentration of corrosion preventative ingredients, and no staining over time.

Finished components are sprayed with Steelgard and then stored on shelving until an order is received, they are then packed up for shipping in the knowledge they will remain protected and arrive with the customer in a pristine condition.

• Handling of protected items is not affected – Steelgard’s ultra-thin coating is not greasy and resists fingerprints.
• Having Steelgard aerosols dotted around the workshop means it has other uses, including cleaning down machine tables which helps prevent rust spots forming.

Like many of Vapor-Tek’s customers the reasons for switching to our high performance corrosion preventatives have been all but forgotten and no one can remember how they learned about our products in the first place!  The fact is, they work so well and are so cost-effective that they have formed part of the standard processes for many years and given no reason to consider alternatives.
